The object of the game is to create a civilization that can stand the test of time. Expand, conquer, trade and spread your culture around the world with the ultimate goal of either conquering all other nations or being the first nation to colonize another world.
Although the title bears his name, Sid Meier actually had little to do with creating Civilization II. Starting out with just a single unit and knowledge of a small local area, your challenge is to guide your civilization into becoming the dominant force, either by conquering every other civilization or by sending a spaceship to Alpha Centauri.
You must locate cities so as to make use of food, construction and trade resources, which can be later improved by constructing irrigation, roads, mines, railroads, and farmland. Each city can construct one item at a time — civilian and military units, buildings or Wonders of the World there are 28 of these across the different eras of the game, and each can be possessed by only one city. PG ahah me too, after finish over time.. Ace -2 points. This was my first PC game ever. I would sit and watch my dad play it every day and I eventually figured out how to play just from watching.
I loved it so much and played the absolute crap out of it for many many years and I've never really completely stopped playing it. I've still got the original thick manual and tech tree poster that came with the box that my dad thankfully held onto but sadly I lost the CD ages ago and after tearing the house apart more than once accepted it was gone.
Thank you so much for uploading the vanilla version and not the MGE with that horrible AI aggression bug in it. I've been searching for this specific version since I lost the CD and I'll be burning one of my few remaining fresh CD-R's with this to replace it. You guys are godsends. Beler 1 point. Each has its own goals, although usually they revolve around militaristic objectives.
Different strategies can lead to different responses from each of the computer opponents. If you build powerful armies, they will probably keep their distance. If you concentrate on education, they will threaten you because their people will become jealous. The number of advancements for your civilization is also very impressive: 80 plus. Advancements range from horseback riding or literacy to mobile warfare or computers.
Another great feature is when you reach certain advancements your civilization can begin building a particular Wonder of the World, all of which have significant impacts.
Isaac Newton's college doubles a city's science output while the Statue of Liberty allows you to select any government at any time. Each Wonder of the World has its own video and, in many cases, full-motion video. Running a civilization is a lot of work. Each city must be managed individually, although they all contribute to the civilization. Changing governments also keeps the game fresh, as each government is viewed differently by the population.
